Military Foam Packaging

Polyurethane foam is used throughout the Military & Defence Industry for general purpose packaging. Military foam packaging is used for impact protection for delicate components, weapons, munitions and tool inserts.

Polyurethane foam is lightweight, which is a key factor in the transportation of military items. Items can be stored for long periods of time, as polyethylene foam is a stable and non-corrosive material.

Polyethylene foam is stable, non-corrosive and gives long term stability when items need to be stored for long period of times. In our range of materials we have grades that meet the UK defence standards nationally and internationally.

Polyethylene foam is a low mass, energy absorption, durable material which offers strength under compression and tension. It is also oil and fuel resistant which makes this material key to military applications.

Typical Military Foam Applications

There are a number of applications that polyethylene foam can be used throughout the military industry:

  • Bespoke rifle and gun inserts which can be manufactured from polyethylene foam routed to the finished size and shape. They are heat-sealed to give the optimum finish.
  • Missile protection cradles which can be routed to the finished item size with the tightest of tolerances.Polyethylene foam has excellent shock absorption properties which make it ideal for this application.
  • Electronics device protection is necessary for the military industry. Our polyethylene foam is manufactured to meet these demands.
  • Static dissipative foams and conductive foams play their part in the Military and Defence market. Dissipative foams disburse a static charge over the surface area of the foam whereas conductive foams allow a static charge to pass through.
  • Other typical military foam applications include helmet liners, camping mats, material handling trays, and cushion packaging.

Non-Cross Linked Foam in the Military

Ethafoam foams continue to meet the highest standards of excellence without compromising on safety or quality. Ethafoam is produced to meet the most stringent of Military tests. The ‘M’ grade of Ethafoam specifically addresses the less than 10% LEL (Lower Explosion Limit) of residual blowing agents required for enclosed military applications.

Compressive creep is used to measure the cushioning performance of a packaging material placed under constant load over an extended period of time. Ethafoam complies with AA-59136 as it has a creep loss of 10% or less.

Anti-static foams are only available in non-cross linked foams and are pink in colour. This material is essential in protecting sensitive electronic components from static charges and vibration.

Apollo Foam provide cost-effective polyethylene foam solutions
