Polyethylene Foam Specific

Polyethylene foam is used throughout the Military & Defence industry for general purpose packaging, impact protection for delicate components, weapons and munitions packaging, and tool inserts.

Weight is key in the transportation of Military items and light weight is one of the key attributes Polyethylene Foam has to offer.

Polyethylene foam is stable, non-corrosive and gives long term stability when items need to be stored for long period of times. In our range of materials we have grades that meet the UK defence standards nationally and internationally.

Polyethylene Foam is low mass, energy absorption, durable, and offers strength under compression and tension. It’s also oil and fuel resistant which makes this material key to any Military applications.

Typical Military Applications

Bespoke rifle and gun inserts which can be manufactured from Polyethylene foam routed to the finished size and shape and heat sealed to give the optimum finish.

Missile protection cradles which again can be routed to the finished item size with the tightest of tolerances, Polyethylene foam has excellent shock absorption properties ideal for this application.

Electronics device protection is a must for the military industry and Apollo Foam has the Polyethylene foam which is up to the test.

Static dissipative foams which disburse a static charge over the surface area of the foam, Conductive foams which allow a static charge to pass through the foam both grades play their part in the Military and Defence market.

Other typical applications include helmet liners, camping mats, material handling trays, and cushion packaging.

Non-Cross Linked Foam in the Military

Ethafoam foams continue to meet the highest standards of excellence without compromising on safety or quality. Ethafoam is produced to meet the most stringent of Military tests the M grade of Ethafoam specifically addresses the less than 10% LEL (Lower Explosion Limit) of residual blowing agents required for enclosed military applications.

Compressive creep is used to measure the cushioning performance of a packaging material placed under constant load over an extended period of time. A material with a creep loss of 10% or less as does Ethafoam does means it complies with AA-59136.

Anti Static foams are only available in non-cross linked foams and are pink in colour, this material is essential in protecting sensitive electronic components from static charges and vibration.
